Services
Under the new contract, the practice is providing the following enhanced services:
Flu vaccinations, childhood immunisations, minor operations, IUCD insertion, near patient testing and improving access to health professionals.
Some of these services are only provided at our main surgery. However, patients registered at both our main and branch surgeries have full access to all services.
Baby Clinics - Health visitors
Newton Drive - Tuesday from 9.30am until 12 noon child health surveillance
clinic and vaccinations including pre school booster (following fourth birthday)
and development assessments are carried out. You will be sent a card requesting
you contact the surgery to make an appointment.
Wednesday 10.00am until
12 noon - well baby clinic.
The health visitors run this clinic for
weighing baby and giving advice on the promotion of good health of mothers and
infants and illness prevention. You will be sent an appointment for eight month
checks and hearing tests.
Yates Street - Thursday from 9.30 - 11.00am
child health surveillance and vaccinations. Please make an appointment at reception.
11.00am - 12 noon for weighing baby and for advice on all aspects of baby care.
Family Planning - Nurse
Cullen
We offer a comprehensive service including the fitting of Implanon devices and
coils. Please make an appointment at reception.
Cervical Smears - Practice nurse
We recommend routine smears every three years from the age of 25 up to the age of 50 and then every five years up to the age of 65. Sometimes they are needed more frequently. You will be advised when your next smear is due. Cervical smears are taken in privacy, with every confidentiality by our well trained practice nurses. Results will be posted to you. If you would like the result sent to a different address please check with the nurse.
Antenatal Care - Antenatal clinics are run by the midwife and doctor. Clinics are at Newton Drive is on a Thursday morning at 9.00am. An appointment system is in operation.
Both the doctor, midwife and health
visitor will see you regularly throughout your pregnancy.
Minor Surgery - Dr Ward, Dr Pattison and Dr Pusey are recognised by Blackpool PCT to offer minor
surgery.
Dr Ward generally treats minor skin lesions such as warts and verrucas
with liquid nitrogen. It may take several treatments (three to five) before the
lesion is destroyed and these treatments are usually several weeks apart. Dr Pusey
and Dr Pattison carry out minor surgical procedures.
Generally children under
the age of seven are not suitable. Please make an appointment with the doctor
for assessment of the condition in the first instance.
Well Person
Checks - Practice nurses
They are carried out on a daily basis and entail
a general check-up and discussion on health matters and problems. Blood pressure
is measured and assessment of risk of coronary heart disease made. General and
dietary advice is given towards improving future wellbeing and disease prevention.
Hypertension (High Blood
Pressure) Clinic - Practice nurses
The blood pressure is monitored by
the practice nurse and referral to doctors made when necessary.
This clinic
also covers hyperlipidaemia (raised blood fat levels).
Asthma Clinic - Practice nurses
Special clinics for asthmatics are run by the nurse and doctor to further
educate sufferers with an asthmatic condition.
COPD Clinic - Practice nurses
To diagnose and monitor this disease.
Diabetic Clinic - Practice
nurses
Weekly clinic for insulin-dependent diabetics.
Healthy Heart Clinic - Practice
nurses
Appointments by invitation from the practice nurses.
Dental Care - You are advised
to visit a dentist regularly at least once a year.
The following patients may
be exempt from payment: pregnant mothers up until the baby is one year old; children
and young adults up to 18 years of age or up to 19 if in full-time education;
Patients receiving income support or family credit. University students can apply
for an exemption certificate every six months.
Optician - Sight testing
You are advised to have your vision checked every 12 to 18 months.
Children
and patients with either diabetes or glaucoma should be tested every six months.
The following patients may be exempt from payment: those with diabetes or glaucoma
and anyone over the age of 40 who is related to a patient with glaucoma; patients
wearing complex lenses; partially sighted or registered blind; Children and young
adults up to the age of 16 years of age or if in full-time education, (students
over 19 can apply for an exemption certificate), those receiving income support
or family credit.
Chiropody
Chiropody is
available at NHS clinics free of charge to diabetic patients and pregnant women.
Medical Examinations
Insurance - driving - adoption - elderly driver - HGV - taxi driver
The doctors
will carry out such medicals as are necessary. These are not covered by the NHS.
The British Medical Association scale of fees applies and you are asked to pay
the receptionist at the time of appointment.
